Peer-to-Peer problems

We have three W2K Pro systems connected via cable (cable
to cable modem to hub to computers). All three seem to be
set up the same way, members of one workgroup. Two of the
computers can see each other, the third can't. I cannot
ping first two from the third, and have tried closing the
firewall on it -- still no connect. The third computer
does have Internet and e-mail access through this
connection.

What am I missing so this third computer can see the other
two and vice-versa??

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers. Got File- and printersharing loaded?

All useraccounts loaded, and file and print sharing on all
systems. By adding the specific IP address of the third
computer to my (I'm computer #1) firewall, we can now ping
each other, but computers still don't appear in
the "Computers near me" window.

Is Netbios over TCP/IP enabled on the WINS-tab of the advanced TCP/IP
properties of the nics?

It was on computers 1 and 3; I've correct computer 2, but
no change in "Computers Near Me" windows. BTW, all three
allow IP and DNS server addresses to be obtained
automatically. Is that the correct setting?

I'm wondering about this: the subnet masks assigned to the
two "working" computers are identical; the third, non-
working computer's subnet mask is different. Also its
default gateway (which is usually the same as the IP
address until the fourth digit-group) varies from the IP
address in both the third and fourth digit-groups. My
cable company tells me either of these might be causing
the problem, but I've tried renewing the ipconfig, and
also releasing and then renewing it, but I can't change
these two values. Does this shed any light on the problem?

I'm thinking I have a hub/router problem, so I'm off to
purchase a router and see if that clears this up. I'll
let you know if this does NOT work. Thanks for your help
so far!!
