peer to peer networking

hi

i have setup a peer to peer networking using windows xp
and broadband.

I have a strange problem and wonder if it is all part of
how the network is setup.

I have three workstations and have got a share setup on
one of them.

if i try to access the share from one of the workstations
there is a time delay the very first time it is
accessed. The time delay is approx 1-2 minutes. After
that i can access the share no worries.

What are some causes for the delay?

Any ideas?

Does your network include a router with a built-in DHCP server?

What are the i.p. addresses being used by your network machines?

Yes, the router has an in built dhcp server

the ip range used is a private range

I suspect that the computer is scanning the network for additional
computers and shared resources during the initial access.

Have you tried mapping a network drive letter to a shared resource
with the "reconnect at logon" option selected and see if that also
experiences the delay?
