Peer-To-Peer Access denied

I have a desktop & a laptop connected as a lan. I have run Chuck's Cdiag &
the desktop has complete acess to the laptop. The laptop can ping the
desftop, but gets access denied when I attempt to access anything on the
desktop. Gateway Desktop XP Pro SP2, 2gb Ram connected to a netgear hub
(wired) , which is connected to a Linksys Wireless router connecfted to cable
modem. The HP Laptop is XP Pro SP2, 1gb Ram, connected to the hub (wired).

At this point I am believe that there is a setting on the desktop that is
preventing access. I have Zone Alarm Pro & CounterSpy on both. I have
turneded off oneAlarm, but that did not work. Both machines have same logon
id (as administrator) & passwords. When connected via wire, I disable the
wireless connection (problem still there).
I have re-installed XP (as an upgrade rather than new install) with no
success.

Any suggestions?

Ed,

ZoneAlarm is known for not reacting properly when deactivated - you may have to
either configure it, or un install it.

Now the "access denied" error can have many causes, and ZA, while a good
possibility as a contributor, is not the only possible cause.

And as you work on your problem, remember the effects of possible compound
problems. I haven't worked with CounterSpy, but just the name sounds dodgy. If
you have a CS problem, AND a ZA problem, AND file sharing isn't setup properly,
you could be at this all week.
