Peculiar Internet Problem

I couldn't find any posts with exactly the same problem that I have so
here goes...
I'm having troubles getting my two computers networked with internet
sharing.

My setup is this, I have a desktop running Windows ME that is
connected to an 802.11b router. The second computer I am trying to
connect is a Laptop running Windows XP which connects to the router
via the built in wirless card. What I would like to do is share my
desktop's (ME) dial-up connection with my laptop (XP) via the 802.11b.

Now when I run the Home networking wizard on my desktop and set it so
that it doesn't share the internet, the network runs fine and I can
"see" the XP machine with the ME machine and the other way around
also. However when go through the wizard again and change it so that I
can share the internet, The network stops working and I cannot see
either computer with either computer. I don't understand this. Can
anyone help me get my internet sharing working, or maybe give some
reasons why it wouldn't work?

Thanks,
Ryan Grandy

Since you want to use ICS to share the desktop's dial-up Internet
connection, you need to bypass the wireless router's Internet sharing
capability, using it as a wireless access point only:

1. Connect the desktop to one of the router's LAN ports, not to its
WAN (Internet) port.

2. Access the router's built-in web server and:
a. Disable its DHCP server.
b. Change its LAN IP address to 192.168.0.254 to be compatible
with ICS.

Then, enable ICS on the desktop's dial-up connection. If it asks what
to use for the home network, tell it to use the connection to the
router's LAN port.
