PDFWriter Gone - Next Best Option

L

Lee Schipper

I have several reports that used PDFWriter to send reports to PDF files.

PDFWriter is no longer shipped with Acrobat 6.0, so what is the proper way
to generate PDF's now?

One particular requirement I have is that I don't want the user prompted for
a file name -- the filename is set from code.

BTW: I tried a third-party tool: PDF995 . Unfortunately I could not get it
to run reliably when I set the output file name from code and ran several
reports in a row.

Thanks,
Lee

Lee:

Take a look at our PDF and Mail Library for Access; it not only supports
Adobe 6, (without file name prompt) but also supports alternate drivers such
as Win2PDF (www.daneprairie.com) and pdfFactory (www.fineprint.com) which
are good alternatives to the PDFWriter driver from the stand point of output
and overhead requirements. You'll find it on our web.

(BTW you can still install and run PDFWriter from Acrobat 5 when Adobe 6 is
installed if you still have the disc.)

Lee,

I had excatly the same problem, our client could not buy Acrobat 5, had to
get 6, so I ended up using Win2PDf, from Dane Prairie Sustems, LLC,
http://www.daneprairie.com/.

Win2PDF works outwardly exactly like PDFWriter, you set the file name in the
Registry and when the report is printed, Win2PDF clears the entry. As far as
I can tell, for small, one page reports, it is about as fast as PDFWriter.

You can buy it on the Web for $35 for a single machine, they have volume
discounts.
