I have an action button with a hyperlink to a file on my computer. During
the slide show, I click the action button and the file opens but then
immediately closes. Do I have to set timing on this to get the pdf file to
stay open until I close it? I am using PowerPoint 2003. Thank you.

No, but I'll bet you have Reader 7 on your computer. It doesn't work correctly
with links to PDF from Office documents.

There's an update to it that fixes the problem. Start Reader, choose Help,
Check For Updates and get the 7.0.1 update.

If you don't have Reader 7, let us know.

Thank you, Steve. I did search the database and found the thread about the
problem with Reader 7. I loaded the updates but then the pdf file would open
only either behind the running slide show or in a minimized window. I opened
the file in Acrobat 5, zoomed the view to 50%, changed the open options to
resize window to initial page, center window on screen, page layout to single
page, hid toolbar, and hid window contols and then saved the file. I fixed
the action button and the pdf file now opens in a maximized screen in front
of the slide show. Thank you again for your help.

And thank you for yours. So apparently one or the other of the view options in
Acrobat can have a side effect on whether the PDF opens in front or not? Weird!
