I've got this HP pavillion saying "No operating system found" at bootup. Now
I am thinking the HD has failed, but before I go and buy a new one, I'd like
to see what suggestions you guys may have for me. I've already checked all
cables and jumpers. I tried to reinstall XP, but when I put the XP cd in, it
would go
the process of formatting the chosen partition(NTFS), copying files and
gives 10
seconds to reboot with a message saying remove floppy disk. When I remove the
disk, it says"no OS found". If I don't remove it, PC goes back to setup
again. Also, I put the HD as a slave on another PC, I ran a diagnotic tool
by the Manufacturer, it passed all tests. Any suggestions please

Why do you need a floppy to install XP except for the people with SATA
drives that should not be an issue. Remove the floppy, boot with the CD in
place, leave the CD in place, let it run it's course.

Is the newly formatted drive in the list of devices in your BIOS' boot
table?

If so, is there another drive on the IDE channel? (I'm assuming it is an
IDE drive of course). If there is another drive try unplugging it and boot
with just the new XP drive on that channel.

Thanks. It's only one HD.

The short, or long, of it is the "C" drive is not being detected. In
addition to information provided by others - a common cause is loss of
system startup files (not referring to Win files). Several options other
than those recommended - use Partition Magic or if Maxtor, Western Digital,
etc. HD installation floppy to verify that the drive is accessible. Also
sometimes this is an excellent use of the old MS startup disc (if FAT system
used).
