My Uncle has just purchased a Lexmark P707 and the PC (Windows XP) want boot
up when it is plugged in via the USB port. If he disconnects the printer,
his PC boots up ok, and he can then connect the printer and it works. Also
his previous printer works ok irrespective of whether it is plugged in
before or after the PC has booted up.

Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

Ian,

Sounds like XP is not recognizing the printer and is
getting confused, (happened to me with a monitor that was
too old to work with XP, the screen remained black until I
changed the monitor then the PC booted up). Visit the
Lexmark web site for the most current driver for your
printer for XP and install it in your PC, should fix the
problem
