I am using XP Pro on a Win Server 2003 Domain. I recently changed the name on
my PC however the network (entire network) sees it as "abcd-myname"
(abcd-oldname) I'm not sure what caused this but it is causing a problem
with AV updates that are pushed through the AV server. Also note that the
domain does not see the new name change at all.

Thanks

To change the name of a computer joined to a domain, you must:
1) Drop it from the domain.
2) Rename it.
3) Rejoin it to the domain.

That is the exact process I used, including the required reboots for each
change. It almost acts like a ghost version of the old name is stuck in the
loop.

OK, well the Netdom.exe utility presented by GTS looks interesting. But are
your problems related specifically to the name change, or to domain setup maybe?
# How long ago did you make this change?
# Have you rebooted the domain controller, DHCP server, DNS server since the
change?
# Is this the only Windows XP computer on the domain?
# Where do you see / not see the old / new identity? In the browse list, on the
DHCP server, in name resolution (ping, shares access, etc)?

Domains, name resolution, shares visibility, are all complex issues. I've
written a few brief articles which may make you think:

you learn may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.
