PC going online on its own

Anyone know what would cause a PC with XP-home edition to
dial-up and connect to the internet on its own? I've run
the anti-virus and Spybot, but didn't find anything.

Whatever it is, I would like to turn it off. So far I've
only caught it doing it once, but don't like the idea at
all.

install a personal firewall. kerio is pretty good.

It will tell you what component is attempting to
initiate a connection.

Mine did that after I downloaded a trial version of Zone
Alarm, which had a limited trial period during which it
checked in everytime I started the computer to make sure
it was still "legal". Have you done something of that
sort?

You probably have a virus or trojan program in your PC. Get an
up-to-date version of Spybot and run it again. Also, get a FIREWALL.
The firewall will prevent any programs from communicating without your
authorization. There are some free firewall programs at sygate.com
and zonealarm.com.

Don't forget that WinXP defaults to sync'ing your clock with an online
time server. Double click on the clock in the notification area to get
to the place where you can disable this.

Rog,have you checked the Auto start feature?right click

the symbol of your ISP and click"do not
start...automatically"....just a thought m8!
