PC-DL Deluxe NIC

Hi,

My PC-DL deluxe BSODs before it reaches XPPro when I enable the onboard NIC
...... it works perfectly well without it ......

I've had the machine stripped down to 1xHD (tried both the onboard IDE and a
HPT372 RAID), 1x256Mb, 1xCPU, AGP, all onboard disabled except NIC - it
still BSODs during OS install.

..... I suspect it's a faulty board .... although the NIC does mutter
something about "Boot agent not initialised" or something .... I'm guessing
that's not a problem as I'm not doing a network boot

Does anyone agree it could be a faulty motherboard? Any other suggestions
before I replace it???

TIA

Grab the latest drivers from 3Com, boot to safe mode and install them.

I would assume a software error over a hardware error first... you haven't
mentioned any attempts at fixing software.

The 3-com works fine ... it's the onboard Intel 82547EI Gigabit that makes
XP BSOD

.... The machine is currently running using the 3-com instead of the intel.
As soon as I enable the Intel in BIOS ... XP BSODs during the boot process.

I've installed the latest intel chipset drivers and SP1'd before enabling
the onboard NIC .... still BSOD's

Thanks

Can you get into safe mode (without networking, obviously!)?

Is the NIC listed in device manager?

If yes to both, what happens if you disable it and reboot?

I'm having trouble with the internal NIC as well, but on W2K. It
occasionally decides there's another machine on the network with the same
name as one it's connected to, and it occasionally looses mapped drive
connections to various servers.

I believe at this point there is a problem with the integrated NIC.

I too will be switching to a card...
