PC-Cillin: Anybody Been Able To Get A Reply From TrendMicro Support?

P

(PeteCresswell)

I've got something where, following upgrade from 2000 to XP; PC-Cillin keeps
prompting "New components detected..." and won't stop even after
downloads/reboots.

I've put in two separate trouble tickets on TrendMicro's site, but no response.

I'm pretty sure the email address I've supplied is good, but with all the virus
filtering going on at the ISP level, who knows?

Bottom line: anybody put in a problem there and heard back?

Have you tried using the PCCTool to clear the cache. I also believe you
need to delete all signature files and some other files and then do an
update. There is a KB article that discusses this. Try looking for all
KB articles for PCC 2004/2005.

Per "My View said:
This is a known issue with Trend Micro.

Go to http://tinyurl.com/9cp6f and scroll down to your situation (depends
upon which version you have).

One of the issues, http://tinyurl.com/bpsy2 (for PC Cillin 2004) , seems close
upon first reading - but it's not the same as mine. Been there a few weeks ago.

What seems to set my issue apart is that the "New components detected..." dialog
keeps on coming and coming. I can answer "Yes", do the update, reboot... and
it just keeps on popping forever and ever.

As you step through the new components install, are you logged on as
administrator?

I've got Administrator disabled, but the account I log on with is part of the
Administrators group.

I use it, love it and have never had this problem. They have a very good
knowledge base and you can call them.
But it just may be that in the upgrade from 2000 to XP some of the
components became corrupted. You just may need to uninstall and reinstall
it. All you need to register it again is your email address that you
registered it with the first time, if it even requires it.

I've put in two support tickets over the last month and...NADA. Too bad
they're going to lose several licenses from me because of their lousy
support.

I dumped Trend Micro years ago. Never had any luck with it.

Per Offbreed:

One thing I found out the hard way: They have a fatal flaw in the way the app
pops notifications. The notifications are interruptive - i.e. if you're in MS
Word or your news reader or something, the TrendMicro notify dialog pops up and
takes focus - swallowing any keystrokes you might be making.

Sounds trivial, but there are viruses/trojans/whatever out there that get on
your PC and then broadcast invitations - which can cause several notifications
per second. Since each notification takes focus, this effectively disables
your PC.

I'm still running the 2005 version, but if I don't hear from their Tech support
on my "new... found..." loop problem, I'm moving on.

Even did a little trolling in this NG the other day about freebie providers...

Ohhh, that's aggravating, and losing the keyboard is not at all trivial.

My View

I must be one of the lucky ones. The only 2 or 3 times I've sent a help
request to TM they have not only replied but have also followed up a couple
of weeks later to see if their recommendations were effective at solving the
problem so they could close-out the request.

Each time I did go the their support website ( http://tinyurl.com/coym2 )
and log-in to ask for help - it wasn't via direct email.

Sorry, just realised I've already answered the same earlier - been a while
