PC auto shutdown

My computer shuts the power off by itself whenever I choose the "turn off"
command from the windows start menu.

Occasionally the computer hangs on the "computer is turning down" screen and
the screen just freezes there, but I can hear the hard drive shutting down,
but all the LED's on my tower remain on and the only way to completely
shutdown the machine is to hold my power button on the tower down for 5
seconds. Does anyone know what may be causing this? I have an Asus A7V8X-X
motherboard with an AMD Athlon 2200+ processor, running winxp pro.

This always occurs the first time I use the "turn off" command after I use
the "restart" command. But occasionally get it the odd time even when I
don't use the "restart" option.

Thanks in advanced.
