Pc Again Slowing down.......

a general moan, so excuse the long rambling on here...
but also in case anyone has a better way...

Curses !!! here we go again... it's almost becoming an annual event!
Having to reinstall Windows and all applications,
because the system is slowing up,
applications are slower to burst into life after the initial CLick on
the
icon.
internet Explorer is one that Is noticably slower to show up on
screen!

Yet having just assisting in setting up a new Pc - and watching the
speed
of boot up~ Aaah if only it could be like this always!

I Wonder if M'soft has ever thought of (if it IS the registry),
having
some kind if registry splitting - one purely for Bootup, so that that
at least
is quick, then when it's up and ready to start any Applications, it
switches
over to an "application registry" and then begins any "boot time"
apps.
would it speed things up any~ I don't know - but tis not to be since
two registries are not here, if even possible - then again.. maybe
it's something
to be suggested to an App maker - if such a thing is possible and
would result
in a speed boost!
But I wonder how much the registry plays a part in speed and App
starting?
Do applications NEEd to be in there?! I did a reinstall some time
back
and on one occasion - where I still had some apps previously installed
in a second partition - and before reinstalling these - i tried to
start some up from their
install folder, mostly that wasnt possible since they were missing
files that
would be installed in C drive - but one or two DID start up ok, and
they would
not have had any reference to them in the registry! since I'd just
reinstalled
Windows !?
just wish i knew more about the internal how's and why's that cause a
system to
boot slower, or applications to start up slower - to the point where
you feel it's
time to clean it all out and start over, and hope at the end of it -
you'v a glitch free fast booting, fast application start clean
machine.
And I'v yet to come across any program that claims to clean your
system up
and make it faster! and most other advice is defrag/spyware check &
diskcheck,
all of which I do routinely at least once every two months - somtimes
monthly.
wonder if this "Pc Pitstop" is any good ~ runs several system tests
and gives
you the results and reccomends changes - but do things liek this
really
solve things.?!? Is there a tool to not just defrag the hard drive but
to also
scan the files and logically shuffle things into line and make them
optimally
easier for the system to access and therefore quicker to open up?
Why does 'windows' move things about on the hard drive!? if they get
shifted
from here to there as the weeks and months roll on - and begin to get
take
longer to fire up cos the files need ot be accessed all over the
place! then
WHY does the operating system permit this to take place! why not an
optimisation scan to lock files in the most appropriate and fastest
accesable place and leave them there!
aaah well ~ ~ ~ if no replies of amazing brilliance~ guess I'll
resinstall windowsXP
and then follow up with a full application reinstall - might take me a
day or two!
:)
U all have a nice day.

XP needs nothing listed in msconfig/startup to boot.
That should be your starting point.

So your saying I could delete everything in the startup tab? apart
from anything obvious
that I know I want started there (anti-virus/spychecker for example).
even any windows system32 stuff..... ?
not at home just now so can't say specifically whats in there..
though I do tend to make sure apps at start up are only what I want,
though I'v not tampered with anything I "don't-really-know-what-it-is"
windows stuff.
I'll check later on other things in there.
