Pb: LAN XP - "\\computer1" fails but "\\computer1\sharedfolder" succeeds

Hello all,

I have two computers with windows XP, connected by a LAN...

The network seems to be almost correctly installed, since I can :
- access "\\computer2" and "\\computer2\sharedfolder" from computer1 (&
computer2)
- access "\\computer1\sharedfolder" from computer2 (& computer1)

However :
- access to "\\computer1" from computer2 fails (it works from compter1)
with the error message :

"\\computer1 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the
network resource.
[...] Access is denied"

Why does accessing this computer "root folder" fail ? Where can I see/change
permission of that thing
(it's not a real folder) ? Anyone can help ?

Thanks in advance
Fabien

Do you have a firewall? On all machines? It may need amending to show the
local connections.

Thanks for your answer. The problem was happening both with or without the
firewall.

And I found the solution : I needed to change the value of
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\restrictanonymous
0
in the registry of computer1

Now everything's fine.
