pause in music / video playback

When I listen to music or watch a video I am getting a start / stop in the
playback. The music / video will play for 3 or 4 seconds stop for a 1/2
second, play, stop and so on. The problem is with any media I run,
regardless of how it is formatted, and shows up on Media player, I Tunes, etc.

I am running XP Home with service pack 2, and I keep Windows updated
automatically. Help!!

I'd appreciate any ideas you have

Thanks

Sounds like a hardware issue or lack of hardware...Is youre ram memory
ok size wise,512mb is getting by,1024mb is ok,hows youre video adapter.
You may also chk event viewer for system warnings/events,and/or go to
run, type:DXDIAG Run the Direct X tests.Last but not least, download WMDiag
Run the WM tester.

Search for codecs suitable for your media player.

Search for codecs suitable for your media player. They are normally
free.

Hopefully this info helps. Andrew, I agree that it's probably a hardware or
memory problem, since the same pause is present during the notes the computer
plays when it logs into windows during a boot up.
