Is there anything built into windows 2000 server for distributation of
patches and OS fixes on a 2000 domain or will I need to look at 3rd party
solutions.

If so, any suggestions.

Download the Software Update Server (SUS) from MS's site,... it's free. It
will allow you to centrally control the patches that are allowed to be
installed on clients. You should be able to find documentation for setting
it up in the same area of the site you download it from.
