Patch for SP2 laptop slowdown

I installed SP2 on my Dell Inspiron 1100 with a Pentium 4 processor. I
immediately noticed it slowed down. Microsoft has a patch for the Inspiron
1150 with the Intel Celeron processor to speed it back up after installing
SP2. Will this patch work on my 1100?

Hi Mel,

I doubt it, but it depends on what the patch fixes. A Celeron and a P-IV are
quite different things, so if it addresses something with the processor,
then the answer would be no. As I have no idea what patch you are referring
to, I cannot advise you any further. If you have a link to the patch, I
would be happy to research it further for you.

Hi Mel,

That patch definitely looks specific to that cpu, as Dell lists it as a
driver update for that cpu and motherboard combination. You might want to
try this chipset update though:

Did you do a defrag after installing SP2. If not, try it. It may
or may not account for all of the slowdown, but it's worth
trying.

As Ken suggests in his reply, a defrag is in order. I installed SP2 on my
1100 back in the summer.....defragged and it was actually faster.

I've done the defrag and cleaned out as much as I could but still have the
problem.
