Pasting Excel named range as link , but the name is lost in the source path.

Hi,
I have Book1.xls and Test1.ppt.
In Book1 , there's a sheet which name is 'ren'.
On the sheet , I named A1:B2 as 'ren'.
And I copied the ren!ren (A1:B2 in sheet 'ren') into clipboard.
Then I pasted this onto the ppt as link by clicking 'Edit'->'PasteSpecial'.

When I confirm the source path by clicking 'Edit'->'Link',
the source path becomes 'ren!R1C1:R2C2' , not 'ren!ren'.

If the sheet's name is 'Sheet1' , this does not happen.
In this case, the source path becomes 'Sheet1!ren' , not 'Sheet1!R1C1:R2C2'.

How do I paste named range 'ren!ren' as link keeping its name in source
path?

Hmm. What version of Office?

I did this just now in Office 2003 SP2.

Renamed the worksheet SHEETNAME
Created a named range RangeName
Saved the file as FileName.xls

Copied the data in RangeName
Switched to PPT
Paste Special, Link

Edit links shows me:

[path]\FileName.xls!SHEETNAME!RangeName

==

Doubleclicked the link, renamed the sheet to Blah, saved and closed excel and
the PPT. Reopened PPT and the link had updated correctly, with the new
worksheet name and rangename.

It may be an issue of when you save the XLS?

Thank you for you reply.
My Office Version is 2003 Sp2, as same as yours.

As you've said if the sheet's name is 'SHEETNAME' , then the problem does
not happen.
But if the sheet's name is 'ren' , then the problem happens.

And I want to know whether there is any sheet name (other than 'ren' ) that
causes the problem.

We haven't established that naming a sheet "ren" causes a problem. Here it
doesn't. I've just tested it.

What I haven't tested is the situation where the worksheet and the range both
have the same name (regardless of what the name might be). Have you tried
changing either of the names?

Also, try repeating the test using the same files.
