Pasting changes formatting of original document both Word

I have a 175 page document in which I used a Word template to create a book.
The book has many kinds of type and graphics. I am trying to bring another
word document of about 5 pages into my book at page 130 . but every time I
cut and paste or Insert, it changes the formatting of the complete document
with clip art all over the place and misaligned text boxes etc. As well, all
my page numbers disappear. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
