Paste to CD burner

I found the mail folder that I want to burn to a CD.
It's under Documents and Settings on C: Drive.
I highlighted it and copied it and tried to Paste
it to the E: Drive, which is my CD burner.
I get an error window saying
"Destination folder is a sub-folder of the source folder."
What am I doing wrong?

Gosh, Will, I did this exact thing a week ago, before I
installed SP2 ..... a simple Copy and Paste operation,
and then clicked on "write files to CD". Now it doesn't
work. The link you gave is just right back to this group, did you
mean for me to search for the solution here in this very group?

And Alex Nichol's article, which I scanned quickly, seems
to tell the theory behind how it works, interesting, but
I haven't studied it thoroughly yet. My question is, what am I doing
wrong? Shouldn't it work the same in XP-SP2 as it did in XP-SP1?

It specifically states that the destination folder is a subfolder
of the source folder. The destination folder actually doesn't
exist yet, but it is obviously separate and distinct from the source
folder, to the point of bring on a different drive. Those terse
error messages can be confusing......

Carey, I printed out Doc.306524.
I tried to follow it literally, without success.
I clicked My Computer, and clicked to highlight
the folder to copy.
Step 3 reads Click on Copy this file,and I did.
I clicked in the Copy Items dialog box, on the CD
recording drive, and then Copy at the bottom of that
box.
In My Computer, I dbl clicked the CD drive.
I now got the familiar "The destination folder is...."
error box.

I really think I followed the Microsoft "How to" sheet....

Previously, I had succeeded in copying the folder to a 'temp'
location on C: drive, and then burning onto CD from there.
But I did it by the simpler method of just highlight, Copy,
then went to CD drive and did Paste and Write to CD. Now
that doesn't work.

Carey, I think I did exactly what that article said to do.
Step 5 gave me that same "destination folder" message.

I tried sending it to a subfolder C:\tempcd1, and there I
got this message: "Cannot copy NTUSER: It is being used by
another person or program". I closed my active mailbox
and still got that same message.

Make a copy of it and then burn it. It won't allow you while you are using
your profile while in Windows. That is also known as the NTUSER.DAT that you
mention in this thread, it is your profile.

That's exactly what I've been trying to do, make a copy of that folder
onto CD, or even to a C:\tempcd folder for that alone.

I think it is better for you to use burning software bundled with CD burner.
Because it is tested to be good with your burner, and it has more functions.

machine, and worked beautifully and simply until I
installed XP-SP2 yesterdat.

William, are you simply trying to back up your mail messages (sent and
received))?

Basically, yes, but really, I'd prefer to have a copy
of the settings and address list and so forth which
are integral to Mozilla. What did you have in mind?

Please note that when I was with SP1, the Copy and
Paste and Write to CD worked smooth as silk, much better
than the old 98 days when I had 3rd part burner software.
As soon as I 'upgraded' to SP2, that hole process went
to Hell in a handbasket.

You should be able to control where downloads go. Where do they ususally go
when you download something? The program in question, by the way, is a small
freeware app designed to quickly backup Mozilla/Thunderbird e-mails and
settings, with simple encryption if desired. It's fast and works very well.
Try downlaoding it again if you're having problems, only next time make sure
you pay attention to where it's going.

Thank you, Harry...I'll take a look at it. But am I correct in
remembering that the simple Copy>Paste>Write to CD that
worked so well in SP1, now does not work in some cases? In
other words, for whatever reason, SP1 used to let me do
things that SP2 no longer allows?

How many days are you going to waste bandwidth on this. We're over 24 hours pf pointless discussion. Looking at that error message and lack of information (under D&S - WTF does that mean - Perth is in that direction but I don't thinbk you'll find it) one can conclude you attempted to do one of two things.

1. Tried to burn the whole D&S\Username folder
2. Found your mail files that were waiting to be burned and tried to burn them again.
..
You are a regular here so you should know better.
