After a while of doing the same thing one after the other, I get the
following error from Excel:"The information cannot be pasted because
the copy area and the paste area are not the same shape and size". I am
copying multiple rows, four columns wide from indivual month worksheets
to the a combined worksheet for importing into Access. Have any of you
had the same problem? What's cause, if you know? What's the solution?

Frank,

When you paste, you must select either one cell, which will be the upper
left corner of the pasted area, or the exact shape that you'd copied, in
terms x cells high and y cells wide. Or a whole multiple thereof. Could
that be it?

I have been copying four columns by multiple rows all afternoon with no
problem. All of a sudden excel decided I could not paste. I rebooted
the machine thinking it might be a memory issue. Same problem.

There are no merged cells involved.

I created single worksheets for each month so that multiple people
couild work on them. I need to put them back together.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds as if something is broken, possibly. Here are some possibilities.

Reset Excel: Start - Run - type excel.exe /regserver. Then start Excel
normally. We do this whever it gets cranky.

Depending on your version of Excel, you may have a repair capability. Try
File - Open, and open up the Open button (little triangle). In Excel 2002,
it's called "Open and repair."

I'd double check the merged cells.

I'd select the range that would receive the paste.

Then Format|cells|Alignment tab
What do you see in the merged cells checkbox?

If it's empty, then I wasted your time.

If it's checked (or grey check mark or green blob), then at least a couple of
cells are merged in that range.
