Hi
After clicking to look at my messages I lost my connection. I renewed the
connection and now I am being asked for a user name and password. This has
never happened before so I do not have the info. I have tried to restore my
computer to an earlier date but it still asks for the info, I am using Vista
and Mcafee, please help as I cannot receive or send mail

This I presume is when you are using Windows Mail? If this is the case, the
user name and password it is asking for is the one you use to access you
email. When you originally setup your email account with Windows Mail you
had to input a user name and password in order to connect to your ISP's
server to download you mail. The user name/password that you are being asked
for is the same one you set windows mail up with in the first place. Usually
it is something like 'yourname@your isp.com' (or net, org, co.uk, etc)
followed by the password you selected when you joined your ISP or webmail
provider.

I have a similar problem. My windows mail has suddenly started asking me for
username and password. I've tried those that were provided when I first set
up an e-mail account and they're not working!
I now can't send or recieve e-mail!

Thanks. Unfortunately the error code is not 800706b5 but 0x800CCC92. Does
that help?

Please select the error message then right click it and choose Copy, then
Paste the unedited error into your reply.

Ensure that your account is set up using the settings described here:
http://www.thephone.coop/support/internet/email/outlookexpress.html

(WM uses the same settings as OE).

Can you log in here to your mail account with your user name & password?
http://webmail.phonecoop.coop/src/login.php

Are you connecting to the Internet via the Phone Co-op connection?

Also, go to the Tools Menu>accounts>select your account>properties>server
tab, and change the "POP" in both of the server names to lower case letters
"pop".

Re-enter your password and click to save it and apply.

You may have to remove the account, close windows mail, reopen it and
rebuild the account. (you will not lose any mail in the process).

If you are sure you are you are entering the correct username and
password, one possible cause for that error is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Which antivirus are you running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, your antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the email scanning function does not resolve your problem,
consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it is less prone to
suffering bad effects from overly aggressive antivirus programs.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:
