Password

I unplugged my compter for a couple of days to transport it and when I
plugged it back in and rebooted it, I got a message that said "Passwords have
been cleared. Set the clear password switch to open before rebooting." Any
ideas on how to do this?

Read your motherboard manual. There may be a couple of pins with a jumper
on, or a couple of solder pads for resetting the CMOS setup- your BIOS. It
sounds like this has been shorted -or opened- depending on how your
particular motherboard sets this function.

That is not a Windows message.
That sounds like a motherboard BIOS message.
My guess is a jumper came loose while transporting the computer.

Check your motherboard/computer manual and/or contact the manufacturer for
details.

Very good. I'm very impressed. That's what happened. The fan on the back
tends to pull dust inside the computer. So while I had it unplugged and on
the table, I opened it up to brush the dust out of it. And while I was
brushing the dust out of it, one of the "Jumpers" got hooked on the towel I
was using and pulled off leaving two bare pins. I took a pair of tweezers
and put it back on and didn't think the computer would notice that it had
been off. But it did. Smile. I'll contact Dell and see if they have any
info. The computer still works good, I just have to key through the opening
screen. Good job. I've very impressed.

Normally you need to put the jumper on only ONE pin so as to not short
the switch if there are only 2 pins.
