Password save for mapped drive

I need to save a password for a mapped drive on several computers. On some I
get the option to remember the password and on others I don't. How can I get
the password remembered on the computers that don't prompt?

Thanks

What version of XP are you running on the computers that won't save the
password? What is different about those computers?

Most are xp pro but some are xp home. I need to save the password on both.

Back up and give a good description of your network - is this an office
or a home network? - and exactly what you are trying to do. Do you want
users to be able to connect seamlessly to the mapped drive without
providing a password or not? Offhand, it sounds like a permissions
issue. Usually this can be solved by creating matching user accounts and
passwords on all machines. Then when a user connects to the shared
resource they are authenticated by the system hosting that resource and
no logon is required. You can still have users login automatically to a
particular account (giving the effect of going directly to the Desktop)
for convenience if you want.

This is an office network (server 2003) at a library. The computers with xp
pro allow me to save the password. The computers with xp home do not. Is
there something I can download to get xp home to let me save the password?

I just realized that I have one computer that has xp pro that does not prompt
to save the password.

By design, XP Home does not cache credentials. If you want your users to
not have to enter passwords every time then you need to upgrade to XP
Pro. You apparently don't have a domain; if you ever decide to set one
up XP Home cannot join a domain either.

As for the one XP Pro machine that doesn't prompt for the password,
disable Simple Sharing (Folder Options>View tab).

It is unclear to me whether you do want users to have to enter a
password or not.

I do not want them to have to enter the password. All computers are members
of a workgroup. Thank you for your help.

Then create matching user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do
not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and the
passwords assigned to each user account can be different; the
accounts/passwords just need to exist and match on all machines. If you
wish a machine to boot directly to the Desktop (into one particular
user's account) for convenience, you can do this. The instructions at
this link work for both XP and Vista:

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -

Make sure you create the matching user accounts/passwords on your
Win2003 machine, too.
