Hi. I'm a real newbie, so I hope you will be patient.
There was a question posted about passwords by "anonymous" yesterday and
answered by Mr. Buyens (and others) whose list of preparatory questions (as
they apply to my case) are answered below.
o Visitors will only download.
o I only need one username and password.
o I will not be using local intranet.
o Login acct. will be stored in database I control.
o I will set up username and password in advance.
o No email verification necessary.
Let me tell you what I'm trying to do.
I am an author collaborating with other authors on a book.
I want to post the manuscript on a web page so the others can see it using
their browsers and then email me with comments and suggestions. They can all
use the same username and password.
Unfortunately, due to some copyright technicalities, the manuscript must be
password protected or it will be considered as previously published (on the
web) and we will have much difficulty finding an actual brick and mortar
publishing house willing to buy it.
I went to the site recommended:
"Securing Web Pages With Windows Authentication"
but I got stuck on the very first step:
"1. Put all the secured content in its own subweb."
I'm sorry, I don't know how to do that. In fact, I'm not sure what a subweb
is.
Any help with the basics will be much appreciated.
