password protection problem

I have a user who sent me a spreadsheet that was uneditiable. At first, the
macros were not enabled so the whole spreadsheet could not be seen in the
Excel window. Once I enabled the macros, the spreadsheet could expand to
fill the application window, but the cells were still password protected.

I sent the spreadsheet back to the user explaining that he would have to
have the password in order to unlock and edit the cells. It turns out that
the original user who first sent me the spread sheet is able to edit the
cells on his PC without a password. However, when the sheet is sent to other
users, the cells are still protected and locked. I thought maybe the
password was somehow associated with his Windows password, but that does not
work to unlock

Would someone please assist me with this mystery?

Thank you

It sounds like the original user has used the Tools-Protection - Allow Users
to Edit Ranges function to allow themself to edit the worksheet w/o having to
input the password. While this is handy for them, it's causing problems for
the rest of you.

Since it sounds like the original user has forgotten what the password is,
take a look at McGimpsey & Bob McCormick's password cracker. Takes about 2
minutes to run.

OK, this worked, thanks. Some people have to place the files vbacv10.dll and
vbacv10d.dll in the \program files\common files\microsoft shared\vba\vba6
directory. You can download them here: www.dlldump.com. Also, this only
works for me if I save the file as an Office 2007 format.
