Password protecting the internet

At home, I have certain users (my kids) set up that I want to lock out of the
internet entirely. Is there a way to password protect any internet
connection? Right now all I've done is delete any icons that will get them
there, but my oldest will probably figure it out soon enough that she doesn't
need those icons.

I know I can find software like CyberSitter or something, but it seems to me
that this could be handled just within Windows itself.

To answer this question we must know which version of Windows you're using.

Sorry, I thought there would be a registry setting that would do what
you're looking for.

Have you tried looking at access restrictions on your router? My son was
once more interested in chatting after school than doing homework. Turns
out my router could block internet access for some or all computers on a
schedule. Access to the router was password protected. After explaning
the situation to him, I shut him off from 8am to 6pm for several months.

Alternately, you can lower your daughter's account to limited user and
then disable the network card by using the Device Manager. A limited
user account doesn't have the rights to re-enable the card.

I thought about doing it from the router side, so I'll look into doing it
that way. I hate bringing down her user account to limited, since she will
be installing games and such that she has.

Thanks!
