Password Protect IE

Hi, I just got a router and setup a wireless network in our home.

With our Highspeed connection, we use to have to input a password to
establish a connection to the internet, which was great cause the kids
couldn't get on the internet when we didn't want them to.
Now with the network setup the way it is you just have to run IE and your
surfing the net.

What I would like to do is to make any user on the network to input a
password anytime they try to open IE, and if they input the wrong password,
then IE should not open/run. (Only those that know the password can use the
internet)

I know there are other party programs out there that password
protects/closes port 80 or whatever, but that is not what I want, I don't
want it on the port side I want it on the program side. As far as I know it
could be configured to use some other port not just port 80.

Check and see if this suits your needs a bit closer:

Seems to be fairly good from the reports and replies from folks whom I
recommend it to so far but I always tell them (and you this time) that I've
never tried it in the past. Password protecting IE will not prevent a clever
child from installing another browser when you're not looking. ;)

Thanks but this is not what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a program that will run Before ANY browser initializes/opens
up.
That program is just for after the browser has initialized/opened with
parental controls for websites and such.

Here's what I want to happen(I use IE as an example):
You click on IE, but instead of the IE Browser opening another window would
popup stating for instance "Input Password To Use Internet", If the correct
password is not entered, the Browser would not open.

As for they're being able to install another Browser, they're accounts don't
have the right/privaledge to install programs, and if they were able to do
so, they'd loose they're computer priviledges altogether.

Nah, the closest that I can think of would then be (there are programs that
will password protect applications but they're pretty easy to stop I
understand and I can't find a free one) might be a firewall that enables you
to control access times AND is password protected. It's still not QUITE what
you want. I did find:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/proglock.html

It's not free and I can't find a free one? I don't often recommend payware
and haven't used that application. My firewall lets me restrict access
entirely and is password protected. I suppose they could open IE but, well,
they'd not get too far with it.

Hi,
This will use IE's Content Advisor:
267930 - How to Configure Internet Explorer 5.x to Block Access to All But
Approved Internet Sites:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=267930

If the users (kids) can (1) search the web and (2) run regedit the password
can be bypassed.

You may get better security with a commercial program such as
Program Protector http://www.blumentals.net/protector/
Program Lock Pro http://www.blumentals.net/protector/
Password Door http://www.toplang.com/passworddoor.htm
or
Cyber Patrol http://www.cyberpatrol.com/
Cyber Sitter http://www.cyberpatrol.com/
Net Nanny http://www.netnanny.com/

Hope this helps,
Don

Always disclose the OS involved when you ask questions which concern it.

This issue is easy to deal with in NTx in an NTFS environment.
(e.g. have multiple user groups and set permissions on the application
program depending on them.) I know it is not possible to deal with it in NTx
in a FAT environment and know nothing about FAT32 in case something
similar may be possible with it.
