password protect fields

is there a way to protect certain fields in contacts so
only those that know password can see contents of field?
 
It's rather more complicated than that, since there is no way to prevent someone from adding a field to a view. You would need to store the protected data in a separate folder, preferably with different permissions, and add code to a custom form to load the protected data only for authorized users.
