Password protect data base

Hello

If I open the data base by firstly launching access then selecting the file,
I am prompted for a password. If I open the database by clicking on the file,
I am not prompted for a password and I am allowed full access to the database.

How can I set up the database to open via a shortcut and still ask for a
username and password????

Are you saying this:
- you start Access;
- it does not ask for a password or username;
- you use File : Open to open the database;
- then it asks for a password (not a username);

BUT, if you double-click the exact same MDB file - the file itself -
not a shortcut to it - Access does not ask for a password or a
username?

Sorry, I can't see that happening - unless I'm missing something ...

Hm, I'm getting some weird google glitches here, so maybe you'll see
this twice.

Are you saying that you:
- start Access;
- it does not ask for password or username;
- File : Open the mdb;
- it asks for a password but not a username;

BUT if you open the exact same mdb file - the actual file, not a
shortcut to it - by double-clicking it, you do not get asked for a
password or username?

Hard to see that happening, IMHO. Is that exactly what is happening?

I am not sure how your issue is happening, but I think the bigger issue here
is that if you are able to open a file without entering a password
(regardless of how you do it) then your file IS NOT SECURED. This would
tell me that anyone could open this file using their default workgroup and
would have full access to the file. It may be secured on your computer, but
nowhere else. That seems to be just the opposite of what you want.

You need to read the security FAQ and start over. You need to follow EVERY
step in the instructions IN ORDER.

Good Luck.
