Password Programs

I am using XP SP2. Is it safe to use one of the password cache programs?
Most of these programs encrypt the information in their folder.

What would be a good freeware program to save my passwords?

Is it safer to keep all password information out of the computer? Anyone
have any bad experiences?

No bad experience, but I look at it like this if it ever gets stolen, Watch
out... If you put your life long accounts bank, investment, and other
passwords in there, beleive me if they find (theives) it they will try
everything in the world to hack the files or folder, just to see,,,OK only if
there techies....not the normal dumb theives.

I don't do it at all.
