I have a Win 2000 which I used to log in with a password. My son played
around with my laptop and changed the administrator password and now he has
no idea what it is and I cannot log in any longer. Is there any way to log
in, reset the password without having to format my drive and loose all the
data I have ?
Any help would be appreciated.

I suggest that your son did you a great service, in two ways:

- If your son ever lost your car keys, would this cause a problem?
Probably not, because you have a second set. Time to create
a second admin account, and lock its password away!

- The iron rule of computing says that all important files must
be backed up to an independent medium at least once a week.
Many people reject this rule until they get badly bitten. It takes
only a very minor modification (or corruption) to make your
disk totally unreadable. Do you want to chance it?

About your immediate problem: Boot your machine with a boot
disk from http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html.
It's scary stuff but it works.
