Password locking one row and colum containing formula

To stop "nuisence experts" changing my spreadsheet formula (haven't we all
met these people!!) I want to secure one row of cells and one column of cells
whilst leaving the remaining worksheet accessable for data entry. I can lock
the whole worksheet but have got bogged down trying to just secure (with
Password) the cell and column containing the worksheet formula.

Hi John

All cells are Locked by default, which only becomes invoked when you
Protect the sheet.
So, select the range of cells from B2 to wherever you want, Format
Cells>Protection>untick locked.
Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet.

Thanks Roger

Have tried your method as detailed but either locks the whole sheet or
nothing. I need to lock one row and one column at the same time to the
extreme right and bottom of my worksheet. I am testing the 'lock' by simply
seeing if I can change data in the intended locked cells.

Remember to unlock the cells that should be used for data entry.

Select that range and then
format|cells|Protection tab|uncheck Locked.

Hi Dave

Is it me?!

All the cells are already locked (without password at the moment). How do I
unlock those for data entry if I cant actually highlight them??

Thanks

John

Hi John

You couldn't have selected the required unlocked range first
Select B2 to lets say M20
Format Cells>Protection>untick locked.
You don't need any range selected when you choose
Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet.

Test this, then go and set the range to what you really want.

If you can't select those cells, try unprotecting the worksheet first. Then do
the work (protect the cells that need protecting and unprotect the ones that
need unprotecting). Then reprotect the worksheet.

DONE IT!!

I highlighted all the cells that I wanted the operators to be able to use
and then entered the format cell function and the did the bit in there. Then
whilst still highlighted went into tools and protection and did the bit in
there and hay presto. . . LOCKED OFF.

Thanks guys for all your help.
