password doubles itself

Why would the password saved for internet access appear to double itself?

It suddenly wouldn't connect because of this, so I started over again by
re-entering it properly and it connected.

But under my dial-up connection's settings it still shows as twice as long
as it should be, and when I change it and check later it's still doubled.

XP always displays 16 asterisks for a dial-up Internet password,
regardless of the password's actual length. If that's what you're
seeing, try connecting. It should work.

Okay, thanks, I didn't realise that.

It had suddenly said the password was wrong, for no apparent reason (it
hadn't been changed) and I assumed that was why.
(My password happens to have 8 digits, and I put 2 and 2 together... or
rather 8 and 8..!)

I'll persevere.

Cheers,
Lindsay
