Partitioning hardrive

Amber

I'm trying to partition my hard drive into a C and a D
drive. Online Help gives step-by-step instructions, but
I can't figure out where to right click for one of the
steps.

Once you're in the Disk Management window it says, "Right-
click an unallocated region of a basic disk, and then
click New Partition" Then "In the New Partition Wizard,
click Next, click Primary partition, Extended partition,
or Logical drive, and then follow the instructions on
your screen."

I can't figure out where the "unallocated region of a
basic disk" is to right click so I can't get the New
Partition Wizard.

Any help? Thanks!

XP's DiskPart utility is capable of only partitioning a hard drive that is empty
or has "unallocated" free space.
For example, if you were to install a new second drive, DiskPart can be
used to partition and format it. DiskPart cannot segregate current files from
free space, therefore, only a sophisticated third-party partitioning program,
such as Partition Magic 8 , can be used with a drive that already has Windows XP
installed.

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to purchase and use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.

If you do not see a "unallocated region" on the Disk Management screenm then
you do not have an space for the second partition. Get yourself Partition
Magic, which allows to change the partition size without reformatting.
