Partitioning - extending and reducing

I have two hard drives installed - one of 300gb with no partitioning. The
other, the original drive, is partitioned as follows:

C: (Boot etc)
D: (Recovery) and
extended partition with 4 volumes

I have only 20% free space on C yet plenty under the extended partition.

I can shrink any of the volumes within the extended partition and allocate
the free space within the other volumes but I cannot extend C: or D:

D is FAT32 all others are NTFS.

Withour deleting the extended partition is there any way I can extend C:

Running Vista Home Premium on HP duo

Thanks

After shrinking the drives/partitions within the extended partition you have
to then shrink the container (the extended partition) also. Then you will
have freed up space (called unallocated space). This space must be at the
beginning of the extended partition, immediately after C: drive. You can
then extend the C: drive/partition and use this space

Thanks - please excuse my ignorance but how do I then shink the extended
partition?
