Partitioning an array

V

Vincent

Upon installation Win2kPro offers to partition my HDD (an
array of 2 drives)as a single drive using all the space
available (default) ...yet also offers me the chance to
partition it the way I want.

When I choose to custom partition my HDD, Win2kPro will
not accept figures for a partition larger than 99,999 Mb,
ie. five digits. It asks for figures in M-bytes and I've
got ca. 152 G-bytes to play with.

I'd like the C: drive to be 138 G-bytes which works out to
138,000 M-bytes ...six digits. No can do!!

How might I work around this?

Ciao, and Thanks

Vincent, WHY would you like to have a 138GB partition for your Win2K Pro? I
strongly suggest that you limit this size to say 10GB for your OS partition
(more than this foe an OS - some will say more than 5GB - is NOT necessary)!

What you should consider doing is:

1. Create a small 20 to 50 MB (FAT16) C partition for your OS Host
files...boot.ini, ntldr, etc.
2. Create a 5 to 10GB D drive for yor OS partition (here you can instll
Win2K Pro)
3. Once you've installed Win2K go to the Administrator Tools & look for the
Computer Management Console...here you can manipulate the rest of the space
on the HDD

Alternatively, if you MUST use 138GB (which by the way is 138 x 1024 x 1024
x 1024 bytes, or 138 x 1024 = 141,312 MB) then your most practical option is
to connect the HDD to another Win2K or an XP sytem and partition the drive
on the system BEFORE shifting it bak to your system & installing the OS on
the 138GB C: (Hey you know what I'd do...)!
