Hi, I just got my notebook with windows xp home edition, I suppose to have
40G harddrive, but somehow there's only 34G available, and I use "disk
managment" to check what's going on, and I found out there's a unkown
partition and I have already deleted whatever inside this partition, but I
still couldnt use all the spaces in my hard drive, coz the partition still
there and now is unallocated, pls tell me how can I remove this partition,
thank you very much for anyone who can help me.

First - that "unknown partition" was likely either system utilities or a way
to restore the system in case of a problem.
Secondly - that partition cannot be that large... I would guess 3GB..

Essentially - here is the REALISTIC numbers:

Advertised --- Actual Capacity
10GB --- 9.31 GB
20GB --- 18.63 GB
30GB --- 27.94 GB
40GB --- 37.25 GB
60GB --- 55.88 GB
80GB --- 74.51 GB
100GB --- 93.13 GB
120GB --- 111.76 GB
160GB --- 149.01 GB
180GB --- 167.64 GB
200GB --- 186.26 GB
250GB --- 232.83 GB

You could use a third party tool - like partiton magic - to claim that space
and integrate it into your C drive - if you want.

Do you know what it was that you deleted? You may have shot yourself in the
foot by deleting the information.

Please provide the name of the manufacturer of the notebook and model.

As others have said you should delete files when you do not know what
they represent.

Hope this helps.
