PARSER MESSAGE: Value creation failed "at line 422" (not 472)

My machine suddenly came up with this
message:
Parser Message
Value creation failed "at line422"

It won't let me get to the desktop.
Upon clicking on "Owner" to log on, which I've
never had to do in the past, it pops up with this
Parser message and throws me back to the log
on screen. Once I got through after waiting an
ungodly amount of time, another window pops up
and says "This copy of windows needed to be
activated to continue."
It was already activated. Anyway I played along and
activated again. It was successful, throws me back to
the log on screen and the parser error pops up again.
Very frustrating. I try again. Guess what. I must once
again activate this copy of windows to continue.
I'm at the end of my rope. I'm running NAV 2003
with current definitions, but removed the hard drive
and slaved it to another machine (clean) for a virus
scan. No viruses found. I have however removed
a ton of adware using Spysweeper and HiJackThis.
The adware was removed a week ago. This just
started a day ago.
Why does windows keep getting deactivated. How
many more times over the internet can i re-activate?

Hi Kendall,

This error message is generally accompanied by an activation message as well
caused by a recent security patch. Users have noted that holding down the
enter key allows a normal entry. If this doesn't work for you,
I would suggest a repair install:

Repair the Windows XP Installation - Note: You will forfeit all MS Updates.

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information
about how to do this, please refer to your computer's documentation or
contact your computer manufacturer.

Insert your Windows XP compact disc (CD) into your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM
drive, and then restart your computer.

(You can also boot with a Windows 98/Me Startup disk with CD support and run
WINNT.EXE in the I386 folder on the CD)

When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message is displayed on your
screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

When you see the following message displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen,
press ENTER: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.

At this point an option to press R to enter the Recovery Console is
displayed. Do not select this option.

On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to agree to the
license agreement. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is
selected in the box, and then press the R key to repair Windows XP. Follow
the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP

Hi Kelly,

I did as you said. The repair install worked great... for a while.
I rebooted several times last night and everything was great.
Shutdown, went to bed. Got up this morning and the same
thing happened again. I guess I'm just going to have to pull
all my data off and do a clean install. What a pain, but I do
like to do a clean install about once a year anyway. I hope
the security patch that did this has been removed. I don't want
to run the windows update and put it right back on.

Thanks again

Kendall

Sorry to hear that, Kendall. If I knew which keys to ask you for, I would.
As for your statement:

What is interesting to note is that after a repair install, all updates are
removed. Yet, you state you still had the issue. Or did you, yet again,
install updates? Reason for my asking is because if this is the case, a
clean install won't help either.

hummm interesting, then it must be a third party program. After I did
the clean install, all has worked fine so far. I suspect NAV 2004 as
I've had trouble with this application before. I've always used Norton
in the past, but with the release of 2004, I've had problems, and
have heard of other people having problems after upgrading to
NAV 2004. It's turned into a resource hog. I don't know if this
is what caused it, but I suspect it. I'm using AVG now, It's free
and seems to work well.

Hi Kendall,

Some have mentioned Norton and some have mentioned Kazaa Plus 2.5.2 and
2.6.2.
