Parental Controls

I just started a DSL service much to my children's
delight. I also have a wireless network in my home with
my computer as the portal. I've enabled sbc yahoo's
parental controls for the kids' accounts but that only
seems to limit their web access when they are in SBC's
browser - if they use Internet Explorer they have access
to the whole kit and kiboodle. Unfortunately, my zeal to
protect their virtue is exceeded only by my technical
naivete? Help, anyone?

Since you have a DSL connection I would recommend getting
a security router with a firewall for some more
protection. I would recommend a Netgear, when you get it
go into the settings and that will give you some options
on how to block things. You can give it a list of words
and it will block the entire page or list the page
itself. You can also get some software to take away
privilages to use programs including I.E., check out
download.com and type in tweak and that will give you
some programs.

I would suggest purchasing Norton Internet Security 2003.
This is an excellent, comprehensive program that has the ability
to automatically update virus and security definition files, thereby
making your computer virtually bullet-proof from security breaches.

Norton Internet Security 2003

Includes:
.. Norton AntiVirus - protects your PC from viruses
.. Norton Personal Firewall - defends against hackers
.. Norton Privacy Control - keeps your personal information private
.. Norton Intrusion Detection - detects and blocks online security breaches
.. Norton Spam Alert - filters unwanted e-mail
.. Norton Parental Control - keeps your children safe on the Internet from porn
