Paragraphs suddenly indent all down the page!

I hope someone can help.
I'll be typing along and maybe I strike a wrong key, I'm
not sure, but then the next line is indented and so are
all following lines. Thanks for your advice!

Sounds like you hit Ctrl+T. Use Ctrl+Shift+T to undo the command.

Hi John,

You don't mention your version of Word, though. To eliminate the
indentation choose the text you're working on with your mouse and then
click the 'reduce indentation' button which is in your format toolbar,
next to the bullet list button (small points with lines following
them).

If you hover your cursor briefly over the buttons, they'll show a name
indicating their function.
