Paragraph Styles

How do I control which Paragraph styles appear in the drop-
down menu box? I created a new style in one document, and
would like for it to appear as a style choice when I open
a new document. Also,I only use 3 or 4 styles, and would
like to make the rest of the styles in the menu not appear
as choices when I use the drop down menu.

The Styles list shows the styles listed when you choose the "Styles in use"
view in Format Style. At minimum (through Word 2000), these are Normal,
Default Paragraph Font, and Headings 1-3. Any other headings that have been
used in a document cannot be removed, but any other style can be "deleted"
from that view, and it will no longer appear. Deleting user-defined styles
actually deletes them. Deleting built-in styles resets them to the default
Normal.dot style definition.

In Word 2002, by selecting Custom at the bottom of the Styles and Formatting
task pane, you can choose exactly which styles you want displayed.

If you have created a new style (or modified a built-in one) in a document
based on Normal.dot (or any other template), you can save those styles to
the template by checking the "Add to template" box in Modify style. Those
styles will then appear in new documents you create based on that template.
Or you can save the document as a new template, and the styles will be
included.
