Panasonic ZE-84 scanner hangs

We have a number of Panasonic ZE-84RMSMK scanners. For some mysterious
reason a new addition to our list seems not to work. A ZE-84RWSM scans
the programming codes flawlessly but once it scans a standard barcode
it hangs and must be power off. Any clues as to why it behaves thus?
Is its default settings different from the earlier models?

Hi Thomas, if it's an RS-232 unit, check that it doesn't have any
transmission protocols enabled like ACK/NAK or STX/ETX as these can
cause serial units to perform in this fashion.

Hi Pete,

I never got as far as trying that. It is indeed an RS-232 device and for all
I know STX/ETX is in fact enabled. My electronically quite apt boss beat me
to it and shorted a resistor in the unit and voila! It worked. I will see if
your suggestion works the next time since it is quite a lot easier changing
parameters than altering the hardware :). Thank you.
