Panasonic PAL NV-GS shows as NTSC in Windows Movie Maker

I have a new Panasonic Camcorder, an NV-GS140. This is a PAL model. When
connected by firewire it is recognised by Windows Movie Maker 5.1 (in XP
SP2), but only NTSC capture formats are recognised.

I also have Sonic MyDVD LE 6.1.1, which when I try to capture tells me that
no PAL device is connected.

The capture in Movie Maker actually seems to work OK (and PAL format video
is produced), but I really want to capture direct into the DVD software,
which I can't do whilst the camcorder is recognised as NTSC.

It seems that some Canon camcorders have a similar problem, for which a
hotfix (to MSDV.sys) has been developed. This fix does not work.

Does anyone know of a fix for the Panasonic?

Interesting, you are the second person who had posted an issue with a
Panasonic NV-GS in the last 12 hours or so.

I have a Panasonic NV-GS-35 and I am interested in all the info I can get,
because I don't know how to do everything yet.

However, I can pass on what info I do have.

As I suggested to the previous poster, have you tried Panasonic MotionDV
STUDIO LE for DV
which should have been supplied on a CD with the video camera. On my PC it
installed as "C:\Program Files\Panasonic\MotionDV STUDIO LE for
DV\MotionDVSTUDIO.exe". The entire installation on this folder is about
100MB.

It captures quite OK, although I do not have firewire which I have bren
advised will improve the capture.

I have a list of Panasonic models which have been affected by SP2, this is
not in it, but as a new model that could be the reason why.
MS do know about the problem, but there is not a fix as of now. I do not
have a release date of anything either.
It has been awhile since I asked about it, so I will put a question to MS
today and let you know if anything comes from it.
In the mean time, if you bought in the UK, sale of goods act says it must be
fit for the purpose etc, you could argue it is not fit for this prupose and
swap it for another cam.

I think my firewire is 1394a, and it looks like that fix should only be used
for 1394b... However, I got a trial version of Pinnacle Studio Plus v9, and
it recognises the camcorder and captures OK. However, I've now got annoying
clicks in the audio, even though it's capturing at 48KHz to match the 16bit
audio on the tape. More research required more me I think...

Apparently using teh fix even if you don't have 1394b has cured some
panasonics, so worth a try, no harm will come if you make as ystem restore
point and use it aftwards if you have no luck.

Where are these clicks? On the captured dv-avi file? after editing? Editing
in Studio? Are you sure they are not on the tape?
