"Painkiller" game on x800 Pro

This game ran very well on my old Radeon 9700 Pro. I now have a x800 Pro
(with 7.2 cats) and
something very strange is going on. I seem to get a lot of 'screen tearing'
when walking sideways but not forwards.

At first I thought it was the Vysnc but it happened even when I switched it
to "always on." I messed around with my monitors vertical/horizontal and
composite holds but to no avail.

I've tried the game's bilinear/trilinear settings and nothing.

I don't have AA or AF switched on because I never use them because my PC is
only an old AMD 2600.

I have tried every patch know to man and nothing doing.

The strange thing is is that it is only this game that is effected and
newer/older games are fine. I don't suppose anyone can shed any light on the
matter?

Thanks

I noticed you had another post saying AGP is disabled on your system.
Install the latest nForce2 chipset drivers (in particular the GART driver in
the package), if you haven't already:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_5.10.html

Depending on Catalyst driver version, there may be options in CCC along the
lines of

"Force 24-bit Z-buffer"
"Disable lossless Z-compression"

Toggle them one at a time and see what happens.

BTW, AA and AF increase video card workload, not CPU workload. Don't let an
older CPU stop you from using those features.

Thank you very much - this did the trick and AGP is now listed correctly. As
for the game, I installed a much older driver and the game ran perfectly :)

Thanks to all who replied!
