pages won't load!

i'm having a terrible amount of trouble with ie6.

i've been trying to open pages on certain websites that
just won't open. often i'm met with the 'pages won't
load' type message. sometimes refreshing will bring me to
where i want to be, other times it just brings up the
same message. my newest (and by far most frustrating)
problem is that clicking on certain links won't load
anything. the little windows symbol in the corner waves
and waves, for an hour if i let it sit, and nothing
happens. i've tried to open the link in a new window and
get the same result.

i don't know if this is due to the way i may accidentally
have set something in ie6, or if it is due to my internet
connection. if anyone has any help they can give me, i'd
really appreciate it. if you wouldn't mind replying to my
e-mail address, that would be best.

If you are running Norton Internet Security, look on your toolbar and see if there is a Web Assistant with a globe icon (if you are running it and that is not there, goto view then enable it). Then ensure you are at the web page url that isn't working and uncheck the block ads and block pop-ups options. This will reset your NIS for "only" that web page for those options. Try refreshing and if that doesn't work, back out (close IE) then reopen and try again. If it works, then that was your problem. If not, make sure you recheck the block ads/block pop-ups for that sight. My own personal web page had some applets that suddenly stopped working. Other people told me that it worked. I had recently added NIS to my security suite and with the help pages and (similar to this) newsgroup type lists I figured it out and had to uncheck the ads thing for my own sight. That particular applet must have had something in it that NIS auto-blocked. Hope this helps, if not, then something else is wrong. (PS, I have to DISABLE NIS (right click the globe in the icon tray and check that) to "send" to THIS list...unchecking the blocks in web assistant didn't work so thats also an option for you at your particular URL. Unfortunately that reduces your security at that site.

i have almost similar problem. i have a user who cannot
do internet banking, and another user who's browsing is
very slow....both using version 6 with sp1...i fixed it by
going to add/remove programs and selecting resotre
previous windows configuration....this reverted to version
5 with out any updates or patches.....but i dont know what
would be the implications of this, in terms of security
patches.........
