I just did a hard drive format and complete re-install of Windows XP (Home Edition). I have already installed all the updates. The problem is that I cannot get it to open certain sites. One example is norton.com, it will open the home page but when I click any of the links I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error. I can get the same sites to open at work. I assume the problem is somewhere on my computer (with IE settings?).

Chris,
Most errors of that type are adware or Winsock related.

I have the same type of issue (although mine is just as likely to happen to any of my favorites or those pages on by drop down list) and have gone to these sites and none deal with my problem.

I am wondering if there is a setting in IE that may need to be changed.

If after the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" page comes up, I click the IE "GO" button, it will bring up the page. It is almost as if there is a routine missing that stops the execution of opening a new site

Any specific help would be appreciated. No new viruses that are causing this

Al

Al,
After you scan your machine for parasites .......

You may need to clear your TIF as you may have a corrupt file there.

Close all instances of OE and IE
Control Panel | Internet Options | General tab
Click the "Delete Files" button, when prompted place a check in:
"Delete all offline content", click OK
Click the "Clear History" button, click OK.
Click the Settings button, adjust the TIF size to 50 mb, click OK
