Pagefile.sys not being found - "Your system has no paging file, or the paging file is too small"

Tom Williams

I've just spent an hour or so following the support.microsoft.com guidelines
for if you get the error message "Your system has no paging file, or the
paging file is too small", when Windows 2000 is booted up.

I've added the SYSTEM account at PC level, and also the Administrators
(*not* administrator!!) account, as they were found to be missing initially.
They both now have Full Control.

I've also edited the registry to change the ClearPageFileAtShutdown in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management so that the Page File is deleted everytime the machine is shut
down, in the hope that it will force Win2K to create a new PageFile.sys, and
not create a temppf.sys in C:\WINNT\System32.

I've set the min and max sizes for the PageFile.sys to be 0, to remove the
file, rebooted, and set them to 1024 and 2000, respectively, in an effort to
get Windows to create a new PageFile.sys, and to remember it!

So far, nothing has worked, and I am fast running out of options. The
machine is used for some fairly heavy processing, and a 20Mb temporary Page
File simply isn't cutting it!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom,

Do you have enough free space for both the temporary paging file and the initial size
of the paging file that you configured in Control Panel?
