Can anyone confirm that it is safe to boot a Win2k OS running fat32 using a Win98se startup disk in order to delete a possibly corrupt pagefile.sys? Then reboot under Win2k and let it restore a new fresh copy of pagefile.sys.

What makes you think it is corrupt?

Only one of many possibilities. The symptoms are that the pagefile use gradually keeps growing over a period of time, and even with all application shut down, the page file remains very, very large. It can start at 150M in the morning, and by evening it can be up to 500M. Any ideas?

Not really uncommon at all. The pagefile size is determined by the initial/
max size set in Control
Panel|System|Advanced|Performance|Settings|Advanced|Change, the applications
you might be running. You may have some application that is memory leaking.
You can use Performance Monitor and or Task Manager to see what processes
are using the mem/ cpu.

If you are running Win2k, or XP, you can either use a 98se boot disc o
download a boot disc free. reboot your computer with the disc in.
At the C: prompt type:

attribe -r -s -h pagefile.sys ENTER This takes off the attribute
otherwise you cant delete it.

Then Type:

del pagefile.sys

take out the boot disc and reboot. The computer will automatical
restore/refresh the file.
I use this in a bachfile on a regular basis to maintain max space on m
operating drive with no ill affects. you can use it at your discretio
or not.

You can email me if you wish.
Good luck.
